I've lived here for five years and have never seen nagashi soumen. I've been missing out. I imagine that if I were a child, I would be quite excited to eat soumen sliding down a bamboo chute.

Jean

I've only heard about this in the books, looks like a really interesting way of eating :)

Donna

Aha! I had seen the noodle thing done the Japanese dorama Trick, and was rather baffled by the whole thing (partly because it was just a family doing it in their yard, but I think that part was supposed to be funny). Thank you for explaining, sounds like fun!

Great post. It was a lot of fun to get an overview of your culinary adventures. I would love to eat that first lunch of rice, salad and sashimi. The noodle-shoot is pretty COOL! I would so participate in that.

Tess

I just made a post about somen and came across this ridiculous YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFPwJRjrdLc
So you could have nagashi somen indoors!

Your blog is my number one source of Japan nostalgia :) How I'd love to trade the icy Melbourne winter for some soumen right now. Then again, I've probably forgotten exactly how disgustingly humid Japanese summers can be. Hope you're having a great time on your camps.

Ciao bella,
during the summer I love to eat "insalata di riso"
Buone ferie.

This is a really inspiring blog, makes me want to go back to Tokyo
